I have an update on the horse. It’s head is mostly finished. The ears need work. So far, I’ve done a good job with the hair. Hair is normally hard, along with anything that lacks detail because changing the shade correctly takes a lot of work.

Big Art Project
Finals ended Wednesday! Hard to believe they were only 4 days ago. Anyway, I’m starting a couple new projects. The first is for a big occasion, done in graphite on 14×17 paper but I can’t say anything more about it. It’s a surprise!
Then next drawing is of a dog named Precious. This was requested by a Deviant, M-Bae on DeviantArt
I will draw this on 14×17 paper in graphite.
Upcoming Art
It’s been so long! All this week I haven’t found any time for updates. Studying for finals has kept me very busy. My last final is on Wednesday and then I’ll be a junior! Anyway, regarding art, I haven’t gotten much done lately. I’ve made almost no progress on the cat. However, I’ve added a lot to the “Dog Named Peaches” drawing. I moved the eye down a tad bit but it’s looking great. The original is from the DeviantArt user, littlebear1337 and this is the photo.
Still Can’t Trust Anyone – Really?
So if you read my recent post, you’d know that an “artist” copied (stole really) my art. They used a WIP version of my Dodge Dart entry. They called it their own. A friend on DeviantArt helped me sort out the first problem of copied works. Just yesterday he notified me that a digital entry had been submitted using my art. I checked and found that my drawing was really the only part of the submission that really had to do with the Dart.
So I reported it under “my work used” and “permissions issue”. The could have asked at least. I would have said no because it’s a contest. And if my dart was the main part of his entry, thats more of my work than his.
I’ll post some upcoming art info maybe tonight.
Can’t Trust Anyone
So I recently added my dodge dart drawing to my DeviantArt Deviations and to the contest. Every once in a while, I’ve been checking around the entries to see who else has a good chance.
Today, I found my own drawing (the incomplete version) copied and re-submitted by another Deviant. In the description, it said, “This is my art work”. Can you believe it?? And then I read some comments and one said, “daym, same picture i’m copying i think :L but i’ve cropped it so it looks a bit different
really like the unfinished look pretty neat
“. Really?? You’ve got to be kidding!
So I reported the picture and made sure it was clear that the work was mine and had been stolen. Not even borrowed. STOLEN. And you definitely DON’T steal it from the kid who put hours into actually drawing it.
But still, I don’t know how they thought it would be a good idea. When they choose the winners, the winners are required to send in the real art.
So now, I see how risky it is just putting up full-quality or un-watermarked art. I’ll probably have to go through my posts downsizing the pictures to prevent re-use. That kind of thing angers me.
Anyway, tomorrow, I’ll be adding a few doodles and some upcoming art news. I’ve been really busy lately with sophomore finals in only two weeks. Is it just me or are they piling homework on?? Anywhoo, thanks for reading, like me on facebook. Follow for new art.
Obamacare Political Cartoon
I have a weekend school project of making a political cartoon on a world current event. It’s kind of a lucky project. I don’t often get drawing assignments or projects that involve art. Altough I didn’t have trouble drawing the cartoons, I had a hard time getting ideas. My dad suggested Obama carrying the Obamacare suitcase that was bringing him down, and I added the supreme court justice and the scanner.
Tell me what you think!
News – Unfinished Projects
I’ve got a lot of catching up to do. You can see just how bad I am about finishing my art from my latest posts:
Eagle Drawing
First, there’s my eagle. It may appear finished or “purposely unfinished” but looks can be deceiving. The head is the most intricate part I have to detail. (And that’s the case with most human/animal subjects). That’s a good thing. Now can go back and continue to smooth out and fill in. I didn’t get past what I currently have, because I only had printouts of two sections of the birds head. When I didn’t have time to print, my interest ran low and I moved to the dog.
Dog Drawing
As for the dog, you can still say it looks “artistically unfinished”. But again, the rest of the photo is background. I want background. the art just doesn’t look quite as realistic if you don’t incorporate the out-of -focus parts of the image. It adds depth of field making it look more photorealistic.
A Dog Named Peaches
Cat Drawing
The more recent cat drawing has a deadline, Sunday. That’s a little more incentive to finish. I’ve still got two in-focus legs and an out-of-focus body. I can’t wait to see Charlotte’s reaction. I’ll upload any additions tomorrow.
I drew a little something tonight. I don’t know if I was trying to incorporate meaning into it or not. I just saw one of those “Objects in mirror are closer than they appear” labels and drew a symbolic sketch based off of it. Stay tuned to see it tomorrow. I just didn’t have time to scan the picture tonight. That’s all for today folks!

Regarding Etsy and the Car Drawing
No art updates today. I promise I’ll start more eagle progress, though. So with the news: I have joined Etsy, a large community of artists selling their work. (There’s more to it than that but I’ll just let you visit their site. Maybe you’ll stumble upon something you like). Anyway, I’ve signed up there but I haven’t added any selling options. I’ll say when I do.
Recently I uploaded my Dodge Dart. I shouldn’t be too worried, but I dont know what to expect from the judges. Since I’ve uploaded my entry, I’ve been periodically viewing other artists entries. So far I’ve seen about ten I’m worried about. Sometimes judges don’t prefer hyper realism because it’s “like copying” and doesn’t have much meaning for that reason. Those are generally the deep thinking judges. However, art should be eye-catching, and what I really need is a few double-takes from the judges. Even still, there are other good artists out there. To see the entries, go here.
That’s all for today folks,
-Mick
Dog Drawing – Gallery of Progress
Project – Dog Drawing Progress 2
So as an attempt at a timelapse video, I’ve been periodically taking pictures of my progress. I’ll upload the gallery and the video/slideshow when I’m done. I might even do a step-by-step of techniques and stuff. Not really that fancy, but once I get a camera that can handle time-lapse, I’ll really have something to show for. So again, find the picture I’m drawing off of here. I take that back. The actual picture is much smoother than my drawing but then I would have to draw bigger for better looking art
Dodge Dart – Finished
I’ve worked a couple days on this Dodge Dart art. I tried to get it as detailed and realistic as possible and I added a dart to go with the logo for the theme. I’m really hoping I get first place. My first purchase if I win the prize money will be an Intuos from Wacom to expand my digital art.
